Abstract
Abstract
The following final degree project aims to analyze the concept of God present in Aristotelian metaphysics and in the Christian tradition, within the framework of the discussion raised in the Modern Era by Blaise Pascal on the God of philosophers and the God of religion. It will seek to understand if the relationship between these notions of the divine is, in fact, a relationship of opposition and incompatibility, as suggested by the French philosopher, or if, on the contrary, we can understand the link between the God of philosophers and the God of Revelation as a relationship of complementarity and mutual enrichment. To carry out this analysis, chapters VI to X of Aristotle's Metaphysics, and the Commentary on Book XII of Aristotle’s Metaphysics will be used, texts that will be complemented with other works by the same authors, as well as secondary bibliography. As a conclusion, it will be argued that we can find a certain continuity between the classical notion of the God of philosophers and the God of religion, behind which we find a relationship between reason and faith of complementarity and mutual enrichment. We will argue that the problem formulated by Pascal responds, mainly, to the risk that an excessively rationalist perspective leads to an emptying of the concept of God, a phenomenon that does not necessarily have to occur in natural theology. Thus, we will conclude that, within the Christian tradition, philosophy can constitute a starting point for the knowledge of God, enriching the religious notion of the divine, and also allowing itself to be enlightened by it.
